Many of the blinds we sell are operated by cords which CAN create a strangulation hazard for young children however we take this into account when making your new blinds.

VERTICAL BLINDS
For made to measure vertical blinds which are cord operated, the control chain and cord will be attached to a cord and chain safety clip which is attached to the wall 1.5 metres above the floor and well out of the way of small children. Vertical blinds can also be made wand operated which is inherently child safe
ROLLER BLINDS
Roller blinds will operate with a sidewinder clutch mechanism which is driven by a loop chain. The chain incorporates 2 breakaway connectors which break the chain loop of extra pressure is applied. Roller blinds can be supplied motorised which removed the need for any chains so making the roller blind child safe
MIRAGE BLINDS
As mirage blinds need a continuious chain loop the breakaway method is not suitable. On mirage blinds therefore we use a chain safety clip which is fixed to the wall 1.5 metres above floor height. As with roller blinds mirage can be motorised which makes them inherently child safe.
VENETIAN BLINDS (all types)
Venetian blinds have at least 2 lift cords. When the blinds are closed the lift cords are accumulated into a breakaway tassel close to the top of the blind with a single cord hanging to 1.5 metres above the floor. If undo pressure is applied the breakaway tassel will break apart removing any cord loops. When the blind is open a cleat is fitted to wrap the cord around
ROMAN BLINDS
As with roller blinds Roman blinds require a continuous chain loop so a contro, chain safety clip secured to the wall 1.5 metres above the floor is used.
All PLEATED BLINDS (Which we make), PERFECT FIT, EZ FIT, INTU and SHUTTERS are inherently child safe.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
In a child’s bedroom we suggest that you position cots and beds so that young children cannot easily access window covering cords and chains.
PLEASE NOTE. Fitting of the child safety features above is a mandatory requirement for all professional made to measure window blind installers. Unfortunately some child safety devices can occasionally activate whilst the blinds are in daily use, particularly breakaway tassels in heavy wooden and faux wood blinds. Your fitter will explain to you how to reconnect these.
